Tyne Riverside Country Park Bike Ride starting at 11am from Information Centre. A challenging 7 mile ride on bridleways – not recommended for beginners or young children -under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.  Phone 0191 2640014 for bike hire. Launch of the Great North Cycleway with civic dignitaries from along the route – Darlington, Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland at 12 noon on the Ceremonial Way

Wednesday 22

Bike Fair on Granger Street at the monument from 8.30am to 5pm.  Free Bike Doctors, bikes for commuters, cyclists to cyclist advice, bike smoothies, get-in-the-cab view of cyclists from an HGV, bike holiday to be won. Call (0191) 277 8907 for more information.

City Chiefs Cycle Challenge starting at 6.30pm takes leading council officers and councillors on a cycle trip round the city centre led by the Newcastle Cycling Campaign.

The Leazes Criteriums starting at 6.15pm are cycle races around a set course in Leazes Park.  The event is part of Northern Rock Cyclone and allows people of all abilities to take part, either as a spectator or competitor.  Check the website for details of all events at www.northernrockcyclone.co.uk
