C2C opportunities ***** CAN YOU HELP ?? *****

Dear Tyneside, Wearside & Teesside Volunteers,
Greetings from a sun-drenched Manchester! I trust you are all benefitting from the great spring weather just in time (we hope) for the Easter break.
This is an early call for your help from your Sustrans Team in the North East. We are planning a major clean up day on the iconic C2C route in the Stanley area.
We need your help with this. We both invite and request you and your friends and colleagues to join in on a taskday we are organising. It is an area without very many volunteers so we want to focus on getting a great job done, promoting Sustrans and the NCN to the wider public and possibly recruiting people form the local community to help us out and perhaps to become C2C Volunteers. So what's the plan?...
Event: Spring Cleaning the C2C.
Tasks: Painting, pruning, Litter picking, signing, milepost sprucing and stallholding
Where?: C2C track close to Shield Row, Annfield Plain, Stanley

When?: Saturday May 21st 2011
Timing?: Meet at site 09:30 for a brew and a 10:00 start.
Sustrans staff present?: Yes - a combination of some or all of Mike Dagley, Graham Johnson & Catherine Smith will be on hand to help set up the day, raise the stall and work alongside vols, supporters and local people to tidy up this important and historical part of the NCN.
Where is the equipment coming from?: Sustrans will provide tools, gloves, goggles, brushes etc and materials pus a stove, gazebo, table and display stuff, banners and flags.
Insurance?: All volunteers and others helping us on this task day will be covered by Sustrans Public Liability insurance
Expenses?: All Sustrans volunteers are offered basic/reasonable expenses should you be out of pocket due to travel on public transport etc.
Sustrans needs you to help with some or all the following;
  • Put the date in your diary and plan to join us out on site for a time
  • Tell you friends, family, colleagues, bank managers, postmen, everyone(!) to come and join in too.
  • Help us prepare a Risk Assessment or do a Site Safety talk
  • Put together a stall and help man it during the day. A chance to speak to path users and to tell the Sustrans story. We need 2 or 3 to help do this
  • Help fire up a stove, watch a kettle to make drinks and snacks for the volunteers
  • Take photographs
  • Write a short artivcle about the day for local papers/Sustrans magazine
We will be there but it woul dbe more fun to have you with us!
On behalf of myself, Graham & Catherine
