NCN14 Claypath Lane Clean Up

Dear ranger.
Excellent progress was made on the Clean Up of NCN 14 at Claypath Lane last Sunday - with a substantial amount of overgrown bushes and litter removed -  however lots more work is required to complete this project.

I am planning another clean up day for either Sat 26th or Sunday 27th March

It would be appreciated if you can confirm your availability or not and also your preferred date if available..

RSVP

John, Ken Phil, Bob, Stuart,
please forward to your groups.

Thanks

Public's views sought on tunnel signs

Members of the public in North Tyneside and South Tyneside are being asked for their views on new wayfinding signs directing cyclists and pedestrians through the Tyne Pedestrian and Cyclist Tunnels.

People can go online at www.tynepedestrianandcyclisttunnels.co.uk to see the proposed signage and register their views within the 'We Would Like Your Views' section.

Tyne and Wear Integrated Transport Authority (TWITA) officials will also be present at the Area Forums for Wallsend (2 March) and North Shields (30 March) and at the Jarrow Community Area Forum (10 March) to discuss the new signage.

Cliff Jessett, Project Manager for TWITA, said: "There are plans for a major revision of signage around the public transport system, including the Metro.

"The Transport Authority is planning a £6 million refurbishment of the Tyne Pedestrian and Cyclist Tunnels and would like to see usage increase from the current 20,000 journeys per month.

"We have therefore been thinking about how best to advertise the tunnels through a new suite of wayfinding signs – the tunnel's 'Sunday best' name is too long for 'finger' signs and suggested alternatives have proved unsatisfactory.

"Before we commit to the new signs we want the public to let us know what they think."

Hi Phil,
had a good hour down under the bridges area on route 10
the last time I did a clean up there, it took a good two hours,
see before and after photos,
two bags one of litter
one of wine and plastic cider bottles
one of the locals walking his dog says the kids used the area as a drinking den,

Offical Opening of the BMX Track

Hello Rangers!
On the 12th March the Friends of Gallagher Park in Bedlington are holding an official launch day for their new BMX track. They have been a brilliant community group to work with and we have based our Connect2 route in Bedlington around this traffic-free East-West link. Does anyone fancy helping me on a stall?
the details are below and it should be a great day. i would like to have a stall from 11am to 4pm so even if you could spare an hour that would be great!
with any luck our Connect2 route will be completed by then at this point too. the national BMX champion is coming up too!
you can see how great the project is in Bedlington!
as usual we can pay reasonable expenses and would provide some food on the day (there are local sandwich shops if the burger van turns out to be a washout!).
if you can help or want more information please can you respond to catherine.smith@sustrans.org.uk
